Affiliate disclosure

What it means

Some links to retailers on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the retailer pays us a commission on the order. The price you pay does not change. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.

How you can spot them

Every affiliate link is labelled as such next to the link itself, and the block it sits in repeats the disclosure. Technically these links carry the rel="sponsored" attribute required by search engine guidelines. This meets the United States Federal Trade Commission guidance that a material connection must be disclosed clearly and close to the recommendation, not buried in a footer.

What it does not change

Verdicts on foods, the recommended food composition on breed pages and the output of the calculators do not depend on whether a link sits next to them. We do not call something healthy because it sells well. The order of retailers in a "where to buy" box is not set by commission rates but by whether they stock the product and how reliably they deliver.

Pet food brands cannot buy a recommendation, a review or a better placement here. If we ever publish paid content, it will be marked as advertising rather than slipped in among the regular articles.

Why we do it

Commissions are how we pay for running the site without covering it in pop-up advertising or taking money from manufacturers for flattering write-ups. It strikes us as the least harmful of the options available.
